India Gate

India Gate is the iconic 42-meter-high war memorial and triumphal arch located at the heart of New Delhi. Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and completed in 1931, it commemorates over 70,000 soldiers of the British Indian Army who died in World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The names of 13,516 fallen soldiers are inscribed on its walls. Beneath the arch burns the eternal flame of the Amar Jawan Jyoti (Flame of the Immortal Soldier), added in 1971 to honor martyrs of the 1971 Indo-Pak War. Surrounded by lush lawns, it serves as a major landmark, picnic spot, and the focal point of Republic Day celebrations. At night, the illuminated India Gate against the dark sky is one of India's most photographed and cherished national symbols.
